We at Bauer's Forever Flowers are greatly honored that the Mayo Clinic, as a part of their 150 year anniversary celebration in 2014, chose one of our Coreopsis introductions, Coreopsis 'Electric Avenue' PP24688, to receive the honorific title 'Mayo Clinic Flower of Hope.'
Originally introduced in collaboration with ItSaul Plants as part of the Cruizin'Series, Coreopsis verticillata 'Electric Avenue' PP24688 will now be promoted under a new name. Mayo Clinic, one of the premier hospital systems in the U.S., has chosen the variety as its 'Mayo Clinic Flower of Hope.'
"To recognize the Mayo Clinic Sesquicentennial in 2014, we looked for a flower that would grow at each Mayo site – Minnesota, Arizona and Florida, as well as the Mayo Clinic Health System campuses in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Georgia. Result: the Mayo Clinic Flower of Hope," says a release on the company's website. "This brilliant yellow flower, a newly developed hybrid coreopsis, expresses the spirit of hope and healing which, in turn, supports our primary value, 'The needs of the patient come first.'"
The 'Mayo Clinic Flower of Hope' will bloom from late spring through fall. Plant in well-drained soil with full sunlight. Height: 18-24 inches. Spread: 18 inches. Moderate to low water requirements. To refresh blooming, remove spent flowers or shear to half height. Hardy zones 5-9.
